My TBR is worryingly long, and among all the books on there, there are always some that you have been avoiding reading since you put them on. Maybe the book is really long and you don't want to commit to it just yet, or maybe you're worried that you won't like it after building it up so much. Sometimes we just have to put it in a corner for now and pick it up later in the future when you're in the right mood.
Most of the books on this list are the 2nd book in a series that I have been putting off for certain reasons. What books have you been putting off and why?
This prompt originally came from a Top Ten Tuesday Post from That Artsy Reader Girl.
Here we go!
The Dragon Republic
Book 2 in The Poppy Wars series, I have been putting off reading this ever since I read the first book. I thought that R.F. Kuang created a magnificent story and I gave the first book a 4.5 out of 5, but I am a bit worried to read the next one for one reason - Rin. I had a hard time reading from Rin's perspective due to her decisions and actions, even though I think it is intentional to struggle with her character. Despite that though and my high rating, it doesn't make reading about her any easier, hence why I have pushed it out of my mind for now.
Jade War
Book 2 in The Green Bone Saga, like The Poppy War I thought the author created an interesting story, but I had a hard time getting through it. That was probably due to the fact that mafia books aren't really for me as I have a hard time reading about power imbalances and injustice. Maybe I will pick this up eventually after the 3rd book comes out.
Outlander
This is a big series both in page count and amount of books in the series. This takes some serious dedication to get through, and that is why I am pushing it off for now. Clocking in at 9 books (not including novellas) and at least 800 pages per book, you are looking at a lot of time spent reading this. I will probably make things easier for myself and listen to these as an audiobook since it won't consume as much of my time.
The Wise Man's Fear
The 2nd book in the Kingkiller Chronicles, I am putting off not because I am intimidated by the sheer size of it, but because I don't want to have to re-read it when the next book eventually comes out. I would rather wait for a series like this to be completed before going on (even though I already read the first book). I might be waiting a while though... I have also heard that something happens in this book that puts off the readers.
Red Seas Under Red Skies
The 2nd book in the Gentleman Bastard series, I had a bit of a hard time getting through the first book. It was an interesting story but it was really dense both in format and in narrative. There were just so many words on the page that it felt like it was taking me 2x longer to get through it.
