Asian Readathon 2021

Updated: Jul 16, 2021

Asian Readathon is month long readathon hosted by booktuber readwithcindy that takes place the month of May. The goal of this readathon is to read books written by Asians or featuring Asian characters.

This is my 2nd year participating in this, and this year feels a bit different because of the escalation of anti-asian hate. While it might not seem like much, at the very least I would like to support Asian authors by reading their work this month and beyond. If you want to support Asian authors or are looking to diversify what books you read, then this may be the readathon for you.

In order to further diversify the books you read, it is recommended that you read a book with authors of different ethnicities for each prompt. If you don't know what to read, Cindy, and a bunch of fantastic volunteers, compiled a bunch of book recommendations (check out Cindy's announcement video to see where to access it).

Without further ado, here are the books I am planning on reading this month for the readathon!

Read any book written by an Asian

The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He (Chinese)

My Rating: ⭐⭐1/2

Read any book featuring an Asian protagonist

The Forest of Stolen Girls by June Hur (Korean)

Read any nonfiction book written by an Asian author

A Slow Death: 83 Days of Radiation Sickness by NHK TV Crew (Japanese)
