Most Disliked Books of 2023

An entire year has passed, and I can't say I am fully satisfied overall with all the books I have read or the quantity of them. There are a good amount of bad eggs in there, and this is the perfect place to talk about them.

Thinking about it off the top of my head nothing particularly comes to mind which can be a good thing since that means I didn't abhor anything I read, just extremely disliked it. And that is true because I didn't have any 1-star reads this year, but I did have a good amount of 2-star reads. But what were my most disliked? Surprisingly, I don't have that many books I hated, which I will consider a win.

Let's get into it.

WITCHES OF EAST END BY MELISSA DE LA CRUZ

I don't really know what motivated me to read this book. I watched season 1 of the series when it came out years and years ago and kind of liked it, but didn't care enough for it to watch season 2. So why I thought it would be a good idea to read this for a reading challenge was beyond me and I clearly regret it because this book was just not it. What stuck out the most to me about this book was that I had never read something that sounded more like it was written by a man and not a woman. The author had no idea how to write a realistic female character for the life of her.

IMMORTALITY: A LOVE STORY BY DANA SCHWARTZ

This duology let me down twice. I actually enjoyed the first book, at first, until the gothic aspect kicked in towards the end and I was no longer enjoying myself. However, I was willing to give the second book a shot in the hopes it would leave me with some satisfaction. You don't always get what you want though, because I didn't enjoy reading this. Not only was this just not a good sequel, but it wasn't a very good book period.

WHERE DARKNESS BLOOMS BY ANDREA HANNAH

New releases are more miss than hit for me, and this book was no different. Now, this book wasn't bad per se, but it was incredibly boring. Barely anything of substance happened in this and I quickly forgot what it was about shortly after reading it.
