Crown of Bones is a YA fantasy novel by A.K. Wilder and is the first installment in the Amassia series.
Let's be honest here, I wasn't expecting much from an author's debut novel, and especially one that is an entry into a series. Boy, did this blow me out of the water though.
When I finished the book I sat there and was like, huh, I really enjoyed reading that. I also like how Wilder has a website where you can see what type of phantom you would have. It's not something I expected from a first-time author and was a nice touch.
The only issue I had with the book was that it did a pet peeve of mine - plot advancement due to the character's stupidity. I don't like sitting there thinking 'well what did you think would happen' when something goes wrong. I didn't dislike any of the characters which surprised me and I definitely want to read more about Kaylin who was my favourite in this.
I think I found an absolute gem here and I will be eagerly awaiting the next addition to the series (which is expected to come next January).
